This was located on The Riverwalk at Flagler Park in Historic Downtown Stuart. Thousands of folk lined every nook and cranny of The Riverwalk starting well before sunset, waving flags, wearing patriotic clothing, having a bang up good time, for free.
At sunset this is where I got damn well pissed off...Before the start of the Illuminations [fireworks] the Announcer over the PA system announced..."Please STAND for the playing of our National Anthem." The vast majority of the thousands of young and old spectators couldn't bother themselves to STAND, and of those who actually did stand, or were standing already by happenstance didn't bother to put their hand over their hearts.
To be participating in a Independence Day Celebration and not have the decency to properly participate in what I was taught to be patriotism 101, is quite frankly un-patriotically apathetically disgusting! Who are these people? At this point I could make many crass political distinctions, but I won't. Here were thousands of folk attending our #1 patriotic event to see a firework display with no reverence to what the day actually stood for...PATHETIC!
As an aside to the above, the next day a was taking my walk along The Riverwalk I was appalled at the amount of TRASH that was left behind in this beautiful setting even though the county set out many-many extra trash bins [recyclable too]. Thankfully County employees were on their way to picking up the mess. Me thinks it a great possibility that the litterbugs were also the un-patriotic apathetic...PATHETIC.
